Douglas R. Cabana

Douglas R. "Doug" Cabana is a lifelong resident of Boonton Township who joined the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders in April 1997. His freeholder colleagues elected him to the director’s position in 2000 and again in 2001. Prior to that, in 1998 and 1999, Cabana was the board’s deputy director. He is the "senior" member of the freeholder board in terms of years of service.

Cabana, in 2010, is freeholder liaison to the county's Department of Law and Public Safety, which includes the county's Communication Center, the Office of Emergency Management, the Division of Health Management, Weights and Measures and the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. He is also the freeholder board's liaison to the Prosecutor’s Office and the office of the Morris County Sheriff and an alternate member of the county's Insurance Commission.

A staunch supporter of county government, Cabana he is a former president of the New Jersey Association of Counties. It was under his leadership as president that the association became an initial driving force behind the now popular concept of "shared services." Cabana will continue in 2010 as Morris County's representative to that statewide association, a role he has held for several years.

Cabana was mayor of Boonton Township for six years and a member of the township's governing body for 11 years. He is a member of the 200 Club of Morris County and a former president of the Morris County League of Municipalities. Freeholder Cabana is an attorney who also has a degree in business management.
