Freeholders To Meet April 26 In Lincoln Park

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

The Morris County Freeholders will this year continue to take some of their regular public meetings on the road. The first will be Monday, April 26 when the board's regular public meeting will be conducted in the Lincoln Park Municipal Building, 34 Chapel Hill Rd., starting at 7:30 p.m.

Freeholder Director Gene F. Feyl said the freeholders began the practice of conducting some of their meetings outside of Morristown, the county seat, in 2007.

"Taking some of our meetings to various towns across the county for the last three years has given us the chance to meet face-to-face and to exchange ideas with local officials, and we look forward to doing the same over the next few months," Feyl said.

Besides Lincoln Park, the freeholders plan to conduct public meetings this year in Florham Park, Mount Arlington, Rockaway Borough, Netcong, Boonton Township, Butler and Morristown.

"Meeting in various towns also makes it more convenient for residents of those communities to attend one of our meetings, to meet the freeholders and to learn more about Morris County government," Feyl said.

Since the freeholders began the practice of travelling meetings, they have been in Boonton, Chatham Borough, Chatham Township, Chester Township, Denville, Dover, Harding, Jefferson, Long Hill, Madison, Mendham Township, Montville, Morris Township, Mount Olive, Parsippany, Randolph, Rockaway Township, Roxbury and Washington Township.

Crime Victims' Rights Week

This week has been designated "Crime Victims' Rights Week" in Morris County.

Freeholder Director Gene Feyl issued the proclamation to raise public awareness of what he called "the foundation of victims' rights - fairness, dignity and respect."

The freeholder director also praised the Victim-Witness Advocacy Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor's office for offering much needed emotional support to every crime victim it encounters.

"The members of this unit work diligently and with compassion to ensure that crime victims are provided with the crisis and emergency assistance and support needed to help make their participation in the criminal justice system less difficult and burdensome," Feyl said.

Feyl said by issuing the proclamation declaring April 18 to April 24 as "Crime Victims' Rights Week," Morris County is recommitting itself to respect victims' rights and to address their needs, not only this week but throughout the year.
